Having a car regularly serviced can add as much
as 26% to its sell-on value, it has been disclosed.
With an average used car selling for £5,500, having a fully-stamped
service book could be worth up to £1,500, said car parts company Kwik Fit.
The company's survey of 2,026 adults
showed that 34% would not buy a car unless it had a full service history, with those over-65 most keen to insist on this.
Londoners
were prepared to pay the most for a fully-serviced car, followed by Scottish drivers.
Those in north east England, the
West Midlands and Wales were the most relaxed about a vehicle's service history.
Kwik Fit said last year saw the
lowest number of used cars sold in a decade - 6.7 million.
The company's customer services director, David White,
said: "It's accepted that a fully-stamped service book will increase the re-sale value of a car but this research
has been able to put a figure on it.
"£1,500 is a significant number and makes a big difference to the value
of a car when an owner comes to sell. For a more expensive car 26% will equate to a very big number indeed. Motorists with
one or two stamps missing should bear in mind that some services will still carry a premium over none at all, particularly
if they've been carried out more recently."

Making sure that we get the correct stamp from the dealer or garage that is doing the car service
makes sense if as Kwik Fit car insurance says it can save up to £1500 pounds. It shows you have cared about your car
and that alone makes it more interesting to a potential buyer.
