Electrical appliance insurance

Looking for cheap insurance for electrical goods such as television insurance and white good insurance. Try companies such as Argos, cover for a tv is around £224.99 per year for 3 years of extra cover, for a tv costing over £1000.Always read the small print to see what is and what is NOT covered so that you don't get caught out.
Camera insurance is often for an extra 3 years rather than yearly. Typical camera insurance prices are around £78 for 3 years cover on a camera costing around £250.
If you have bought a plasma tv costing around £1500 then 3 years insurance cover will cost around £365.
Washing machine insurance breakdown cover will cost between £75-£100 for 3 years cover.
A tumble dryer will cost between £38 and £78 for insurance cover for again, 3 years, depending on the cost of the machine in the first place.

The cost of washing machine and tumble dryer repairs make the cost of insurance seems worthwhile. Washing machine parts are expensive. A circuit board on a washer dryer costs approx £138. Washing machines do go wrong. If you have water leaking from the door your seal could have gone. A noisy drum when the washing machine is spinning indicated a worn drum bearing. If the washing machine works but does not spin then it usually means the drive belt has gone. It is particularly important that you do not overload your machine as this can cause the drive belt to loose tension and then not work properly.

Plasma television insurance cover
When taking out domestic electrical insurance cover, if you are specifically looking for plasma television breadown insurance, check carefully as many policies will not include dead pixels on the television and screen burn on plasma screens. These are the very things that you may want covered by television insurance. Also check when buying your plasma television if you find pixels appear that they company will provide you with a new one. We had this experience and found quickly that some companies will not replace your television if shortly after purchasing bright green pixels appear. These are irritating and glow brightly and draw your eye to them making the "movie experience" on the large plasma screens not such a pleasant one. The company we bought from, unfortunately no longer in business did replace our plasma television, but I have heard several stories of other companies saying that a few pixels appearing are considered normal. So double check when you purchase and double check any television insurance cover.

Money saving tips on using your domestic appliances

Unplug your domestic appliances that are not in use.

Don't overfill the kettle. Kettles use huge amounts of electricity. Just boil for the amount that you are going to use.

Turn down your thermostat. Even just a degree will help

Try to line dry rather than use the tumble dryer. Tumble dryers are electricity guzzlers.

For lightly soiled clothes you can use a cold wash or a 30 degree wash. Hotter washes of 40 degrees do not kill bacteria.

Make sure your freezer is regularly defrosted and stacked. The same with your fridge. The fuller it is the easier it is for the fridge to stay cool when the door is opened, thus saving electricity.

Use the microwave rather than the oven or hob. It uses far less electricity and in the summer it will mean your kitchen will stay cooler.

Avoid using the air conditioning, another electricity guzzler. Try a fan instead. It uses much less electricity and the breeze is enough to make heat evaporate off your body making you feel cooler.
