Nationwide Building Society have now added free travel insurance cover
for the 65 to 75 year age group as part of the package included within their FlexAccount current account.
The FlexAccount is the Nationwide’s flagship account and previously excluded
travel insurance for any new customers over 65 years-old.
The
insurance will cover European travel and would be equivalent to saving the customer approximately £70 per year.
Customers will be required to use their FlexAccount as their “main”
current account which would entail them either transferring all their existing standing orders and direct debits to the Nationwide
or making a deposit into the account each month of at least £750.
Moneysupermarket.com did a comparison for a 75 year-old couple buying multi-trip insurance cover for Europe and established
that the price would be around £125 to £220 so the included free cover within the FlexAccount could represent
a reasonable saving.
The insurance policy offered by the Nationwide
has a £50 excess, cancellation cover of £5,000, up to £10 million worth of medical expenses with hospital
benefits of £25 per day plus up to £1,500 worth of cover for possession’s and baggage.
Travel insurance was first added as a free addition to the FlexAccount package
in August 2010 after the Nationwide had stopped offering their free withdrawals of cash while abroad benefit.
